Task List
Troubleshoots and isolates network problems using: utility software, product manuals, online knowledgebases, vendors, and other sources including consultation with colleagues. Analyzes and selects or develops the most appropriate solutions to restore network services. Ensures continuous network availability using diagnostic software to monitor local area (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). Sets-up local area network including design, installation and configuration of server, cabling topology, network operating system, application software, and peripherals. Performs back ups of server. Provides server account administration services which may include security consulting and auditing, and firewall connections. Communicates network / LAN changes to user community(ies) (locally and globally) to prevent disruption of service. Communicates up and down management lines to stay informed on company issues, and to provide inputs on strategic decisions involving business operations using the company network. Implements corrective measures to network problems by installing software, and replacing or repairing hardware such as hubs, routers, and peripherals. Using software tools, documents daily network incidents and number of problems and actions taken. Conducts periodic system maintenance including: network operating systems patches and updates; bio upgrades (basic input/output systems); and hardware (swapping out components including servers, hard drives, hubs, routers, etc.). Creates and maintains ongoing databases of network hardware and software updates and configurations. Develops login and other script routines and agents, and programs which allow (1) network clients to more efficiently use the system, and (2) Network Administrators to manage and administer the network. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all company safety regulations.
