Tri-Valley Tech Prep Occupational Profile Project The Tri-Valley Tech Prep / School-to-Career Consortium has engaged the Bay Area Industry Education Council to conduct six occupational profiles, using the Work Keys System.
Hewlett Foundation Funds Machining Technology Workforce Development Pilot Project The Hewlett Foundation, has funded a two-year workforce development pilot project for the machining technology sector. The project will identify career pathways in machining, analyze a range of jobs in the sector, and lead the development of targeted training and apprenticeship programs to provide low-skilled, low-wage workers in the industry with the means to increase their skills and move up the career ladder.
California Future Workforce Development Project Engages Manufacturers in S-T-C Funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the National School-to-Work Office, the project helps engage small and medium sized manufacturing in school-to-career.
IEC Joins East Bay Works Regional Workforce Preparation & Economic Development Funded by four state agencies, this pilot effort will build a coalition of community colleges, private industry councils, school-to-career partnerships, and others to develop a streamlined regional workforce development delivery system that is skills based, and client centered.
BaySCAN, IEC Launch Information Technology Learning Collaborative IEC will spearhead the formation of the BaySCAN Information Technology (IT) Learning Collaborative. The purpose of the learning collaborative will be to provide Bay Area schools with access to IT companies throughout the Bay Region so that students that are interested in pursuing IT careers will be able to participate in work-based learning opportunities and internships. The learning collaborative will also focus on providing faculty development opportunities and assistance in identifying and integrating into curriculum, skills standards in both industry-specific skills and foundational skills (SCANS) and competencies.

It takes a village to Raise a Child, but how shall we raise the village?

ccording to some observers, School-to-Career (STC) is merely another initiative in a series of federally-funded attempts to reform public education.
The STC initiative will disappear, these observers believe, when federal legislation and funding sunset in a few years. Yet, contrary to such predictions, a number of state and regional initiatives whose federal support has run out--are being funded through other sources including state general funds.
This suggests that STC responds to prevailing historical trends which will not disappear with legislation.
