     Task List

  1. Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked, using telephone, shift logs, and short wave radio.
  2. Conducts surveillance of premises by walking or driving to guard industrial, commercial, or residential property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  3. Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  4. Observes and verifies authorized personnel by examining identification badges.
  5. Sounds alarm or calls police or fire departments by telephone in case of intrusion by unauthorized persons or fire.
  6. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries, by observing company safety rules.
  7. Observes customers to guard against shoplifting and apprehends suspects.
  8. Patrols assigned site; uses DETEX system to register at watch stations and record time of inspection trips.
  9. Permits authorized persons to enter property.
  10. Reads company training manuals, shift logs, and other communications materials.
  11. Records data in shift logs for use of supervisory staff, such as property damage, unusual occurrences, or unsafe conditions.
  12. Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  13. Confers with client's staff to obtain orientation to physical workspace and to learn about internal operations.
  14. Drives security vehicle to patrol beat.
  15. Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at company entrance to maintain order and flow.
  16. Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles; informs company management, and / or expels violators.
  17. Reports criminal information to authorities and testifies in court.
  18. Maintains weapons and tools in working order.
