  4. Studies CAD drawings, blueprints, sketches, hand drawings, manuals, specification, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece.
  5. Based on condition of raw goods, selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  6. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all safety regulations.
  7. Design CNC part programs per drawing and material requirements to achieve sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  8. Applies knowledge of standard shop practice, theory and procedures, shop mathematics, and machinability of materials to achieve production outcomes.
  9. Selects appropriate cutting tools required for various operations to ensure functionality and performance of the machining process.
  10. Inspects cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
  11. Post edits CNC program to fine tune process for optimum performance.
  12. Works in teams to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and perform quality assurance checks.
  13. Confers with customers (engineers and designers or others) to prevent or resolve machining or assembly problems.
  14. Troubleshoots production problems by reading equipment manuals, and industry trade standards manuals.
  15. Verifies "first article inspection" using appropriate measuring instruments.
  16. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit CNC machines.
  17. Consults with purchasing, management, and vendors to determine the specification of raw goods.
  18. Calibrates machine tools using hardware and software adjustments.
  19. Fits and assembles machined parts into complete assembly, using standard SMI, hand tools, and power tools.
