Task List

  1. Observes machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometer and dial caliper.  Adjusts machine to control part process.
  2. Based on condition of raw goods, selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  3. Basic set up and operation of conventional, special-purpose, and CNC machines, including calculating and setting controls to regulate speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut, to fabricate any machinable materials.
  4. Sample inspects "in-process" parts using appropriate measuring instruments.
  5. Works in teams to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and perform quality assurance checks.
  6. Adjusts machine to control part dimension, including CNC offsets.
  7. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all safety regulations.
  8. With supervision, post edits CNC programs for optimum performance.
  9. Applies basic knowledge of standard shop practice, theory and procedures, and shop mathematics to achieve production outcomes.
  10. Inspects cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
  11. Studies CAD drawings, blueprints, specifications, and under supervision: hand drawings, sketches, and sample parts, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece.
  12. Under advisement, selects appropriate cutting tools required for various operations to ensure functionality and  performance of the machining process.
  13. Documents problems and changes in part program in writing on "job documentation sheet", or verbally informs co-workers & supervisors.
  14. Cleans and maintains orderly work area.
  15. Reads and learns to consult industry trade standards manuals to learn processes and specifications.
